Jack Rogers Hopkins: California Design Maverick" film premiere at PSMOD 2024
Premiere of the documentary film, “Jack Rogers Hopkins: California Design Maverick” during Palm Springs Modernism Week, 2023. A Q+A with design experts Katie Nartonis, Jeffrey Head, Dave Hampton and Jo Lauria follows. Gallerist Gerard O’Brien serves as Host.
The film is a companion piece to the 2020 book “Jack Rogers Hopkins: California Design Maverick” which features rare historical images, Hopkins family photos and insightful original essays on the life and work of an important West Coast designer-maker. The book and the film together will, in turn, inform an upcoming 2024 exhibit featuring a small collection of rare and important works by the late San Diego designer-craftsman. The exhibit opens in the Spring of 2024 at the Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation for Arts and Crafts Jacobs Education Center Gallery in Rancho Cucamonga, California.

Join The Nartonis Project’s Katie Nartonis for the screening of her film “IN TANDEM: THE LIFE AND WORK OF JERRY & EVELYN ACKERMAN” (a film by Katie Nartonis + Margaret Halkin) which will be shown during MODERNISM WEEK 2020 as part of a larger celebration of all things Ackerman entitled “PARTNERS IN DESIGN: EVELYN and JEROME ACKERMAN”
In addition to the film screening, a panel of design experts will also discuss the Ackerman legacy including LA Modern Auctions founder Peter Loughrey, fashion icon Trina Turk, gallerist Gerard O’Brien, museum curators Dale Gluckman and Jo Lauria, and Laura Ackerman-Shaw.

Join us for the premier of In Tandem: the Life and Work of Jerry and Evelyn Ackerman, February 14th, a film by Katie Nartonis and Margaret Halkin as part of a larger event, MASTERS OF MID-CENTURY CALIFORNIA DESIGN at Palm Springs Modernism Week.
MASTERS OF MID-CENTURY CALIFORNIA DESIGN: THE STORY OF EVELYN AND JEROME ACKERMAN
The event, sponsored by the Eisenhower Health Center, features a distinguished discussion panel of writers, curators, historians, and gallery directors, all credentialed experts on twentieth century decorative arts. The short film, In Tandem: The Life and Work of Jerry and Evelyn Ackerman produced by Katie Nartonis and Margaret Halkin, will premiere.
The debut of the film coincides with a lecture and book signing for Hand-in-Hand: Ceramics, Mosaics, Tapestries, and Wood Carvings by the California Mid-Century Designers Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman by Dan Chavkin, Lisa Thackaberry, and Jonathan Adler.
Jerry Ackerman, a living national treasure, will attend.
